Festival of Lessons & Carols

December 18, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Come celebrate the traditional Festival of Nine lessons and Carols with the choir and congregation of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, East Haddam, Sunday, December 18 at 10 am. The church will be beautifully decorated for Christmas, and there will be many opportunities to join in the singing of Christmas carols. Denise Yost will be guest violinist.
First introduced to Kings College, Cambridge in 1918. Lessons & Carols service was designed to offer solace to people who were distressed, and in many cases, bereaved, at the end of World War I. It has endured and remains as a time to step back from the hustle & bustle of the holidays and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas.
St. Stephen’s building is modeled after the stone churches found through England, Ireland, and Scotland. Legend has it that it’s bell is the oldest in the western hemisphere, cast in Spain in 815 for a Spanish monastery. It is still rung by hand prior to every service.

Whoever you are, wherever you find yourself on life’s journey, and whatever questions dwell in your heart, you are welcome here. Whatever your race, class, sexuality, beliefs, or talents, we hope that you join us in the radical hospitality of God’s table.
