It has been a busy week already at St. Stephen’s as I prepare to start my sabbatical on Friday, filled with goodbyes, meetings, and wrapping up loose ends before I step away for the summer. As I do so, it has made me aware of all the new and exciting things that are taking place in our church community. From mission trips and Celtic Evening Prayer, to some exciting work around new branding (stay tuned!) and the opportunity to welcome a new priest and a new voice in the proclamation of the Gospel in the Rev. Ann Perrott, who will be with you over the summer while I am gone.
It makes me think about the song from Mister Roger’s Neighborhood, that Fred Rogers would sing at the close of every episode:
I’ll be back, when the day is new
And I’ll have more ideas for you
And you’ll have things you’ll want to talk about
I will, too.
God is at work at St. Stephen’s and God is doing wonderful and exciting things in our community. God is also at work in our world, and God is doing wonderful and exciting things beyond the walls of our church. I’ll be spending my sabbatical looking for God at work and watching for those wonderful and exciting things, and I hope that you will join me.
Because, when I return in September, I know that I’m going to have ideas and stories to share with you. I can’t wait to hear the ideas and stories that you have to share with me.
You’ll have things that you want to talk about.
I will too.
