I chose to start my doodle with an invocation, calling out one of the many names of God. I chose “Honey” because that is a name I call both my parents and God is both our mother and our father. Honey also calls to mind the verse from Psalm 19, “the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether… sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.”
I printed the word “honey” on the page, not connecting the letters. Then, I added lines shooting out from the letters, the trails of bees. Next, I tied all the letters together. Finally, I filled in the letters and the spaces with color. I added some additional lines to break up the larger spaces.
The word “Honey” was now very hard to discern. Instead, I saw the word “one”. God is One. That unites the three faith tradi-tions, which have their root in Abraham, Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. Lynne pointed out the word “love”. We also saw a bird, a fish, and an eye in the shapes.
I started the process full of uncertainty and doubt both in my ability to master this form of prayer and in my skill as an artist. I was intrigued by the process and the results and I will try this again. Thank you, Lynne, for introducing it.
