Search Committee

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church is happy to announce the arrival of their new rector, The Rev. Adam Yates, pictured at left with Bishop Diocesan Dr. Ian T. Douglas.

Adam comes to East Haddam from St. Paul’s on the Green, Norwalk, CT, where he served for two years as the Assistant for Member Incorporation. He is a graduate of the Chicago Theological Seminary, Chicago, IL, and Northland College, Ashland, WI.

Adam is experienced with church growth, parish life and membership development as well as pastoral care and adult/youth formation. Passionate about excellent liturgy of all styles, he believes that our common worship is the foundation of our Christian life.

Outside of the church, Adam enjoys amateur astronomy, baking, and outdoor activities—he is very excited to live in the beautiful setting of eastern Connecticut. Adam and his partner, The Rev. Matthew Emery, Senior Pastor at Storrs Congregational Church, are currently living in Storrs, CT, with their pet cat, Demon.  Adam’s first Sunday at St. Stephen’s was on September 23rd and he is eager to get to know the people of his new community in East Haddam.

The search process to call Adam to St. Stephen’s was a long one and we thank every member of the Search Committee for their devotion to their duty: Fred Weissbach, Liz Garofalo, Terry Tovey, Nick Grillo, Ed Odell, Debby Duncan, and Priscilla Hoover, as well as Susan Adams for the weekly inspirational prayers sent through email.

St. Stephen’s is an Episcopal Church of the Diocese of Connecticut. We have weekly services on Sunday mornings at 8:00 am (traditional language) and 10:00 am (with contemporary language, choir, and childcare). All are welcome in our community.
