Who we are…
St. Stephen’s Ladies Aid Society, in name, stems from Florence Nightingale and Ladies Aid Societies in war time that organized and sent supplies for soldiers. Fast-forward to the 21st century and it’s a name that has stuck at St. Stephen’s for “all the women at St. Stephen’s doing a variety of wonderful ministries including the ministry of simply coming together as women.”
What we do…
Ladies Aid has an outreach arm that has made donations to memorial funds, graduating seniors, East Haddam Food Bank and Christian Education to name a few.
Ladies Aid also leads different fundraising initiatives such as “Blueberry Mania” and “The Cookie Fair.”
Monies from these have been contributed to the Youth Group’s mission trip to Mississippi and back to St. Stephen’s to re-construct the bell tower.
Interestingly, one of the first big projects the Ladies Aid Society did was to build that very bell tower in 1904.
Ladies Aid also has a “Helping Hands” initiative whereby if someone is in need, the Helping Hands coordinator coordinates a helping team to bring food, meals or whatever supplies may be necessary for the person.
Forum & Fun
And in 2010, the Ladies Aid Society began hosting a “Forum and Fun” series consisting of a variety of programs that tapped some of our parishioners interests and talents including an “All Things Cooking” night, a showing of the “Stranger Safety: The Safe Side” movie along with a talk from local officers for parish and local families, an evening where we learned about Saint Stephen’s Prayer Shawl Ministry, an evening learning about self-defense and an evening learning and Praying in Color. Some years we also plan a women’s retreat.
The Ladies Aid Society is a lot of wonderful ministries bundled into one but most of all, we are a bunch of ladies with lots of love and lots of spirit looking for and implementing ways to aid our society.
Come join us!
